What?
The Best Salmon and Steelhead Fishing in Northern California. Just 4
1/2 hours from the bay area the Trinity River can seem like your on an adventure thousands of miles away. If its Steelhead
on a fly rod, or King Salmon or Steelhead on conventional gear we do it. Our five guides are all locals,
each have over 20 years experience fishing the Trinity River.
WHERE?
The Trinity River is located in Northwest California 40 miles west of interstate 5
in Redding on Highway 299 West. The old stagecoach town of Weaverville attracts many with a flair for antiques, gold mining,
white water rafting, and a touch of the "Old West". Junction City is 8 miles west of Weaverville on Hwy 299W. When you leave
the interstate, slow down and enjoy Trinity County, one of California's best kept secrets. The half million-acre Trinity Alps
Wilderness area can be seen from Hwy299 looking north and the crystal clear Trinity River flows along the highway for miles.

HOW?
The Trinity River is fished with custom built Fish Rite drift boats, which transform
easily from two fishermen in front (for bait fishing), to one in front and one in the rear with braces (for fly fishing).
This boat was built to fish the Trinity River, right down to the Realtree HD camouflage paint for stealthy presentations during
low, clear conditions. Fish Rite drift boats are oar powered (no motors) for a quiet relaxing float down the river. For the
cold weather trips the boats are equipped with propane heaters. In 2005 we added a 14' Vanguard self bailing raft to our fleet,
the main purpose for this raft is fly fishing when river conditions are low and clear. The raft will also be used to access
areas that the drift boats cant safely drift.
WHEN?
Trinity River Fishing starts with our spring salmon season in June. Salmon show up
in Junction City about the second week of June. July and August are the best time to fish for Chinook
(King). Back trolling plugs or back bouncing roe (cured fish eggs) are proven methods for fishing these beauties.
Whether you’re experienced fishermen or on your first trip you will get a chance at a big bright King salmon.
September is when our fall run King salmon arrive followed closely by fall Steelhead
run and a fall run of Coho Salmon. We target the King salmon and steelhead but occasionally hook a Coho salmon.
Coho salmon are released, as they are "Protected status". The Trinity River has a nice Brown Trout population,
and occasionally we land one up to 6 or 8 lbs. We fish for King salmon until the first of November, with October being
our combo month when you can catch salmon and steelhead on the same trip. Bait and plugs are the normal gear
for salmon. The arrival of the fall run steelhead in October is the beginning of our fly fishing season with
bait fishing very effective also.
October through March we fish for steelhead. Bring your waders, rain gear, and a 6, 7, or 8# fly rod,
(we can provide you with a rod if you need.). Fly fishing we mostly dead drift indicators which is one of the most effective
ways to cover water while fishing from the boat or wading. We also nymph by high sticking or swing techniques whichever method
suits the particular water. If you’re a bait fisherman we've got you covered as well, fresh roe, stonefly nymphs, and
plugs are all great baits here on the Trinity.
About
The Trinity River is a pristine freestone river which is fed by many tributaries from
the Trinity Alps wilderness area. The tail waters flow out of Lewiston Lake being fed by Trinity Lake. The Trinity River water
releases range from 300 cfs (cubic feet per second) in the winter to 6000 cfs in the spring and early summer. The Trinity
River flows to the west approximately 100 miles through rugged canyons where it flows into the Klamath River at Weitchpec.
Forty miles later, the Klamath flows into the Pacific Ocean.
Don’t forget the camera the scenery is gorgeous with abundant wildlife. Daily sightings of black
bear, blacktail deer, river otter, bald eagles, osprey and an abundance of waterfowl are common.
We use the best tackle available, including Shimano, Loomis, Sage, Berkley, Maxima, and Gamakatsu.
